Sentence Diagramming 101 Group Course

An introduction to the Reed-Kellogg system of diagramming sentences that will increase your understanding of grammar and improve your ability to construct clear, uncluttered sentences. In this eight-week course, you will learn how to diagram various kinds of simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences. A thorough grammar review will also be included.

Please note that the lessons are progressive: the content of lesson two builds on the content of lesson one, and so forth. Therefore, it’s important to complete lessons successively.

  • Lesson 1: The Main Line. Subjects, verbs, complements, simple questions
  • Lesson 2: Diagonal Lines. Adjectives, adverbs, interrogative pronouns
  • Lesson 3: Angled Lines. Prepositional phrases, indirect objects, objective complements
  • Lesson 4: Stilts and Stair-Step Lines. Verbals and verbal phrases
  • Lesson 5: More Connectors and Dotted Lines.Nouns, adjectives, and adverb clauses
  • Lesson 6:More Dotted Lines. Compound sentences and compound-complex sentences
  • Lesson 7: The X-Factor.Commands, comparisons, unexpressed words
  • Lesson 8: Floating Lines.Appositives, interjections, direct address, expletives

Note: Although no text is required, a Warriner’s English Grammar and Composition (Third Course or higher) will provide extra exercises and sentences to diagram. Inexpensive copies are available on Amazon.com.

Format: This is the Group Course format, which includes an online discussion group and instructor feedback. This course will be conducted via Google groups.
