This course provides editors with an overview of style guides, including the current editions of the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), Christian Writers Manual of Style (CWMS), Society of Biblical Literature Handbooks of Style (SBL), and Merriam-Webster (MW). We will discuss when to use each resource, where to find important sections, and how to handle common issues. We will also explore how to use keyword searches to find the rule you need.

Students will have hands-on assignments where they will go to the various style guides to tackle common issues they will face while editing. After completing this course, students will have a general knowledge and an overview of style guides and will feel more comfortable in knowing how to look things up.
